Ustica Thunder Cave Dive
Low Difficulty – Depth 0/30 meters
Ustica Thunder Cave Dive, is practicable by everyone, even by those who are not expert divers. We will dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters and enjoy an incredibly varied seascape.
Also called “Rutta ru Tronu“, this is how this suggestive space located after Nido Cove, near Licciardi Point, is called in the dialect of the island. The cave unravels among large boulders covered with algae and sponges, nudibranchs, spider crabs, cowries and other crustaceans and molluscs.
We will observe pagri or solitary snappers wandering among the deepest Masons. The path is very irregular, punctuated by arches, passages and canyons. The Thunder Cave Dive is located in zone C of the Ustica Island Protected Marine Area.
Thunder Cave is made up of the remains of the ancient vault that was shattered, two versions of the origin of this name, the first attributes the collapse to lightning – hence the so-called “tronu” – the second to natural factors; perhaps it is the rumble of the sea that reminds us of thunder.
