Low / Medium / High Difficulty – Depth 0/40 meters
Ustica Doctor’s Rock Dive dive, the rock of a thousand legends, a myth for divers from all over the world who have been lucky enough to dive around its waters. A marine garden full of Barracuda, Amberjack, Grouper and Dotti and fascinating canyons.
In addition to being one of the most fascinating in Ustica, diving at the Doctor’s Rock, due to the variety of itineraries, is also accessible to all types of divers and offers some of the most beautiful underwater sceneries and landscapes in the Mediterranean. The morphology of the site is so varied that it is possible to make more than 5 different underwater routes, all with different characteristics. The Rock emerges on the edge of the integral marine reserve, about a mile from the coast and can be reached in 20 minutes by boat along the north-eastern coast of the island, thus allowing you to admire its beauty. The seabed around the rock is 4-5 meters and teeming with life; starting from here the diver can choose between tangles of tunnels, caves, canyons or walls up to a plateau overlooking the blue and around which schools of ducts, brown, red and golden groupers, barracudas, tuna and amberjacks swim of considerable size.
Doctor’s Rock has the characteristic of being crossed, for its entire length of about 70 meters, by an underwater passage that has a depth of 20 meters. This gully is at least 40 meters wide and is sufficiently illuminated by the two openings on opposite sides, offering a wonderful spectacle of light reflections. The Tunnel has an elongated shape and few areas of completely dark. Above the cave is covered by the petrosian sponge, orange madrepores, sea daisies and bryozoans such as false coral and sea lace. Doctor’s Rock is located in zone B of the Ustica Island Protected Marine Area.
The biodiversity that can be found at the Doctor’s Rock is such that in this site you can truly see everything, from nudibranchs to magnos, from gorgonians to sponges, and pelagic species such as mobulae and sea eagles. The seabed is one of the most varied, majestic and interesting on the island and contributes to making the dive unique.
