Medium Difficulty – Depth 0/18 meters
Ustica Cowries Cave Dive it is the door that leads to the most secret part of the island, to its earthly bowels.
A few tens of meters south of Cavazzi Point, at a depth of about 20 meters, this wonderful and huge cave opens up. Characterized by a huge chamber and a backdrop that alternates stretches of sand and rock slabs, the Cowries cave is an enjoyable dive for divers of all levels. Once inside, follow the left wall full of cracks and holes that represent a perfect refuge for large magnos (Scyllarus arctus) and beautiful shrimps (Parapandalo).
The seabed rises slowly up to take us to the right side of the chamber, where divers will have the opportunity to establish a positive attitude and go out with their heads above the water to enjoy the spectacle created by the presence of some magnificent bubbles in complete tranquility breathable air. Always afloat, visitors will be able to move around admiring the three rooms that emerged up to the last one, where you can even take off your fins and get to the beach and from here look at the numerous tree roots hanging from the ceiling. Everything must be retraced backwards, reviewing the atmosphere of the penetrating blue from the large entrance, towards which we will head to exit and complete our dive. Cowries Cave Dive is located in zone C of the Ustica Island Protected Marine Area.
Cowries are marine molluscs of which there are about 200 species all over the world. These cute nocturnal animals love to hang on to rocks and have shells so shiny they are reminiscent of porcelain.
